# How to research reference creators without copying anyone

Every creator who grows fast has an unglamorous secret: they study what others do. The difference between studying and copying is what you take away: not the post, but the pattern behind it.

## Choose the right references

A good reference speaks to an audience similar to yours, even if it sells something else. Mix profiles from your country and from abroad: foreign ones often anticipate formats. Include one or two direct competitors too, to know which questions they already answered and where there is empty space.

## Look at the outlier posts

The average of a profile says little. What matters are the posts with engagement far above normal for that profile. They reveal a topic or a hook that touched the audience. Compare several of these posts and look for what repeats: the type of opening, the promise, the length, the recording format.

## Turn videos into text

In Reels and short videos, what holds attention is in the first lines spoken, and that does not show up in the caption. Transcribing the videos lets you compare hooks side by side, notice structures and reuse the logic, not the words.

## The shortcut: extract and chat with the profile

In Creathoria, you type the handle of a reference, choose how many posts to load and which to analyze, and see the credits before confirming. The platform transcribes the videos, describes images and carousels, keeps the captions and builds a dossier with topics, hook patterns, structures, formats and tone. Then you open a chat with the profile and ask anything, such as “which hooks worked best with beginners?”.

## From the reference to your voice

The final goal is to apply the pattern to your experience. A validated hook combined with your story, your opinion and your offer becomes content only you could have made. That is what separates a reference from a copy.
